Chanel Gris Obscur

I’ve tried on new Chanel ‘Gris Obscur’ with the Le Gel Coat from Le Rouge Collection N°2. It’s a grey black polish with a slight shimmer. The formula is really good and two thin coats gave full opacity. As before the brush is a bit too long and flimsy, not at all to my liking. For the top coat it’s the opposite regarding the brush, it’s shorter and sturdier but a bit too hard. Seriously? How hard can it be? Loads of nail polish makers have brushes that don’t annoy me… But I like the formula of the top coat as well, so if you can overlook the brush issue (I might be a tad picky 🙈) the polish itself is gorgeous.

A big part of this release is the Rouge Allure Ink. It’s a liquid lipstick that goes on like lip gloss and dries matte. Right now I’m having a love affair with these, easy to apply and still moisturising with a velvety matte finish. My only wish is that they would release bolder colours.

Have you tried the new formula polishes yet? What are your thoughts?

Chanel ÉTÉ Summer 2016

Here is a little review on Chanel’s summer collection 2016 with the new and improved formula. It consists of four colours which all scream autumn to me, not summer. But hey, it’s different from every other collection.

Chanel été summer 2016

Chanel été summer 2016

A green shimmer Émeraude, a silvery gold metallic Canotier, a brown shimmer Cavalière and a bright orange creme Espadrilles. The formulas are truly excellent on them all and they are so highly pigmented that you could almost do only one coat. I’m not a fan of the brush though since I think it’s a bit too long and bendy. Despite the brush they apply easily. Since I never wear polish for an extended time I can’t vouch for the longevity.

Here I made a mani using all four polishes:

I really like all these colours but for fall, the brown shimmer is my favourite. How do you feel about this collection? Chanel is pricey so I wouldn’t buy these if the colour doesn’t make me drool, and Cavalière might have awoken that must-have if it was presented in autumn.

IsaDora jelly pop

This new collection from IsaDora is released this week and I’m excited to try them out. The Jelly Pop polishes are meant to be worn by themselves for a pop gloss effect, squishy and shiny. Over white for a neon pop effect with high gloss. If you use a silver metallic as base you get a metallic pop, watercolour effect.

I’ll get back to you with a review when I have swatched them.

OPI I'm Getting a Tan-gerine dupes & comparisons

OPI Retro Summer dupes & comparisons

I actually made these dupes and comparisons, yay! At a first glance the OPI Retro Summer 2016 collection seemed to have some dupes among them so I had to check it out. I pulled out all the polishes that I have that looked close enough, so if they’re not in this post I don’t own them OR didn’t think they were similar enough.

OPI Towel Me About It

OPI Towel Me About It, swatch and comparisons

OPI Towel Me About It, swatch and comparisons

From left to right; OPI One Chic Chick, OPI Towel Me About It, CND VINYLUX Sun Bleached, OPI I Just Can’t Cope-cabana. These are all two coats and no top coat. As you can see both OCC and SB are dustier and TMAI is more citrusy. I think that TMAI is unique enough and just the right shade of fresh yellow to warrant a buy.

OPI SPF XXX

OPI SPF XXX dupes & comparisons

OPI SPF XXX dupes & comparisons

From left to right OPI Down to the Core-al, OPI Can’t Afjörd Not To & OPI SPF XXX. It was hard to capture in this picture but they aren’t that similar. DTTC is definitely more neon and CANT is more orange. Also a thumbs up for SPF XXX.

OPI Sailing & Nailing

OPI Sailing & Nailing dupes & comparisons

OPI Sailing & Nailing dupes & comparisons

From left to right; Essie Meet the Parents, CND VINYLUX Creekside, Essie Find Me an Oasis, OPI It’s a Boy!, OPI Gelato On My Mind &  OPI Sailing & Nailing. I didn’t know I had these many baby blues… aren’t they pretty? 😀 No dupes here either, Yay!

OPI Flip Flops & Crop Tops

OPI Flip Flops & Crop Tops dupes & comparisons

OPI Flip Flops & Crop Tops dupes & comparisons

From left to right; OPI Suzi Nails New Orleans, OPI Flip Flops & Crop Tops, OPI Kiss Me I’m Brazilian, CND Vinyl Gotcha & OPI If You Moust You Moust. If FF&CT had mor shine in this picture I think that the three in the middle must definitely count as dupes. Gotcha is sliiiiightly more peachy, but that’s minuscule. What a disappointment OPI, your own dupe… And if you truly love this shade I would go for KMIB because it has a better formula.

OPI What’s the Double Scoop?

OPI What's the Double Scoop? dupes & comparisons

OPI What’s the Double Scoop? dupes & comparisons

From left to right; OPI Love Is In The Bare, CND Vinylux Winter Glow, CND Vinylux Cake Pop, OPI Mod About You, OPI What’s The Double Scoop? & OPI Suzi Shops & Island Hops. This is the color that I thought for sure I was going to have a dupe for, it’s really close but not quite. The closest is SS&IH but it’s more pink while WTDS is more muted and a little bit dustier. Huh, who would’ve thought?

OPI I’m Getting a Tan-gerine

OPI I'm Getting a Tan-gerine dupes & comparisons

OPI I’m Getting a Tan-gerine dupes & comparisons

From left to right; OPI Where Do Suzi’s Man-go?, IsaDora Peach Club, OPI Crawfishin’ For a Compliment, Essie Resort Fling, CND Vinylux Salmon Run & OPI I’m Getting a Tan-gerine. Such a lovely bunch of peaches, but no real dupes either.

Summary

So these comparisons left me a bit surprised but then a bit underwhelmed as well. Some of these are soo similar to other shades it’s not worth the money, while others definitely are unique and sweet all on their own.

Which ones are your picks?

Ciaté gelology nail polish review

I received three polishes from Ciaté with their new gelology formula, which is in line with what every polish brand is doing these days. Everyone is launching longer lasting formulas.
Here is what Ciaté says:

THE FORMULA ADHESIVE POLYMER gives a longwearing finish for up to 10 days of high gloss shine. EXCLUSIVE GLOSS AGENT optimizes the adherence to nails, allowing flexibility which minimizes chipping and enhances durability. PIGMENT-RICH FORMULATON gives shades 360 radiance for vivid, high coverage colour.

I can’t really review the longevity of them since I need to change my polish all the time, but I’m going to review the formulas and overall impression. Two coats and top coat on all swatches.

Ciaté Gelology Cabaret

This is a deep plum, sophisticated and beautiful. The formula was excellent and the wide brush was easy to handle. With two coats I got full coverage but in some lights I could see a visible nail line. I’m totally in love with this shade.

Ciaté Gelology Dangerous Affair

It’s a deep vampy red with good formula. But I experienced that when it dried it showed all the little bumps and scrapes on my nail, even with a good top coat. I used two coats and top coat.

Ciaté Gelology Iced Frappe

This is a perfect beige nude with a purplish undertone. The formula is excellent and you could get away with one coat, but I did two out of habit.

Blog event with Goodprscandinavia

I was at a blog event with Goodprscandinavia who represents OPI in Sweden. They showed news from a bunch of brands and of course OPI Retro Summer.

Just look at these highly pigmented palettes from Make-Up Studio. I want them all, so beautiful.

These events are a good opportunity for me to meet with nail nerds like me, and blogger friends. Hanna and Elli from @newlypolished was there and I met sweet Agnes from @agnesnails for the first time, such a sweetheart.

We got a goodie bag with a bunch of stuff to try out.

Suncare and shampoo from Vision Haircare, and the best news of all ‘cover up’; a hair colour spray to cover up the outgrowth 😍 THE best thing ever. I’ve tried another brand before and this product is a total lifesaver for me. My hair grows like crazy and I don’t have the time to change constantly colour in my roots. Just spray this on and your hair looks great until your next wash. Looooooove it.
I’ve tried the Esse probiotic cleanser once, and I’m a fan of the lathery cleansers so I wasn’t sure about this. But it lathers softly on the face and leaves a tingly feeling afterwards so it really feels active. I really like it.
Nashi Argan Oil for all kinds of hair is a welcome product to my bathroom.

Now to the polishes in OPI Retro Summer collection, from left to right:

Towel Me About It, I’m Getting a Tan-gerine, SPF XXX, What’s the Double Scoop?, Flip Flops & Crop Tops, Sailing & Nailing.

Can’t wait to swatch these babies.

Is there a product you want to know more about? Ask away and I’ll do my best.

IsaDora #jeanious

IMG_0268

Denim on denim is a big trend right now and IsaDora is on the bandwagon with this new collection of six different blues. There are two creme polishes, two velvet matt nails, one shimmer and one sugar nails. Since I’m a big fan of blue polishes it was no hardship swatching these.

IsaDora 832 Flared

This is a Velvet Matt nail polish, which dries matte. This is full coverage in two coats and it has a subtle sparkle that is really beautiful. I’m feeling old washed out denim shirt here.

IsaDora 524 Slim Fit

This is one of the cremes in the collection and I used two coats and top coat. Excellent formula and this vibrant blue is clearly one of the Spring trends even if this one doesn’t scream jeans at me.

IsaDora 833 Bootcut

The next Velvet Matt in the collection and this one has no sparkle and dries flat. Imperfections on the nail will show. Easy to work with and I used two coats.

IsaDora 136 Rugged Wear

This is the only textured on in the bunch and the trend seems to have dwindled, but THIS one is awesome. You want denim? Here I come. Match your denim on denim with this denim polish and you’re all set. The first picture is with top coat just to show how gorgeous it looks with it too. Two coats.

IsaDora 525 Hot Legs

This is the only metallic shimmer, and it comes in a deep royal blue. I’m such a sucker for this shade. This is two coats and top coat, I almost went with three because it’s a bit thin so in certain lights you could spot the visible nail line.

IsaDora 523 Stone Washed

A light blue creme that has a good name. Excellent formula. Two coats and top coat.

This is a solid collection with a bunch of gorgeous blues. I’m liking the different textures and formulas. Overall the formula is very good, but as always I’m longing for a little bit thinner brush for closer cuticle application.

ILNP Bikini Bottoms

Bikini bottoms, ILNP

Here is a little swatch from ILNP ‘Bikini bottoms’. Such an amazingly gorgeous raspberry red/pink holo. The holo was hard to capture on film though, but it’s very deep in real life and the shine is beautiful. As always with ILNP holo’s the formula was excellent and I almost got away with one coat, but the second one added the depth to the color.

Since it immediately reminded me of raspberries I did an accent nail with little raspberries on top of Essie ‘Romper room’, but they look more like grapes. Never mind, it still looks cute.

Life gave me lemons

My first ever manicure with fimo. Fimo is a sort of polymer clay that you can slice to thin slices of whatever the fimo was designed to be. I got a bunch of pre-cut fimo fruits from Born Pretty Store, (use my code AMJ61 for 10% off) and I couldn’t wait to try them out.

I started with som lemons that I paired with – obviously – OPI ‘Life gave me lemons’ from the 2014 neon collection. And I striped it in chunky stripes with OPI ‘Alpine snow’ using nailvinyls from here. On my accent nail I did a gradient with China Glaze ‘Towel Boy Toy’, Essie ‘In the Cab-ana’ and OPI ‘Alpine snow’. Then I stuck the fimo lemons on with nail glue. I actually loved the outcome, it looks fresh and crisp like a lemon and really like the fimo. They are going to be a lot of fun to play with.

OPI neons 2014

Now I have swatched the whole OPI neon 2014 collection and I will share my thoughts on this collection with you. The collection is six new bright colors and introducing a new base coat called ‘Put a Coat On’, a white colored base made to make the neons pop.

OPI Neons 2014

OPI Neons 2014

First up I want to talk about the base coat; the sentiment is perfect. All neons need a white undie to make them pop, so having it in the base coat and skipping that first level of white polish would be great. But… here’s the thing, after trying it under the whole collection as intended I’m a bit underwhelmed. Since it’s tinted it behaves like a colored polish more than a base coat, it’s streaky and takes longer to dry than my usual base coat. And I’m a bit lazy and don’t want to put more layers than one of my base coat, so it really shows under the polishes if application wasn’t perfect. So the functionality is not was I hoped for, since I might as well put on a white base coat that is easier to apply evenly. I’m no expert applier though so if you’re talented with your brush it would probably work better. If you’re in a bit of a rush to put on your polish it drags the base coat with it too if it wasn’t entirely dry.

Now on to the polishes. I’ll start with ‘Push & Pur-pull’, a squishy sheer purple. I wouldn’t exactly call it neon but gorgeous color nevertheless and it’s really mouth watering. I had some trouble with the application of this one, since it’s so sheer that my clumsy base coat application really shone through. But it was the first I tried so maybe I got used to them after a while and figured out how to apply them better.

OPI Push & Pur-Pull

Next is one of the most neon in the bunch, ‘Down to the Core-al’. Its an orange-pink-coral shimmer neon. Make any sense? Well, it’s stunning and super bright. The shimmer adds an extra dimension and also makes it easier to apply. I don’t have anything like it so I’m happy to add this to my collection.

OPI Down to the Core-al

OPI Down to the Core-al

Next up is ‘You are so Outta Lime’, a wonderful green that doesn’t say neon at all to me. But I really love it. Application was good, two coats. This is also a needed contribution to my collection 😉 aren’t they all though?

OPI You are so Outta Lime

Next up is the other most neon-y in the collection; ‘Hotter than you Pink’. Like it’s coral counterpart this one too is shimmery with a purple undertone. Easy application and stunning. Very bright, love it.

OPI Hotter than you Pink

We’re moving on to ‘Juice Bar Hopping’, a vibrant orange. Kind of neon but not quite. Nevertheless it’s also a gorgeous color and easy to apply. Makes me thirsty for a drink.

OPI Juice Bar Hopping

And last I managed to save my least favorite of the bunch, ‘Life Gave Me Lemons’. It’s a greenish tinted yellow, which is a kind of ugly color that can still look cute if you know what I mean. The application was a bit chalky but still ok. I have better neon yellows in my collection.

OPI Life Gave Me Lemons

OPI Life Gave Me Lemons

Overall I really like this collection even if it’s not as neon as I would wish. There are some real stunners in there, but also some disappointments. I would definitely not spend my money on the base coat. The rest I’m happy to give a home in my Helmer drawer, even if I will push ‘Life Gave Me Lemons’ slightly to the back.

I hope you liked this and that it was helpful in any way.
