Valentino rockstud nails, tutorial

Inspiration is everywhere, and I’ve seen so many pictures of these gorgeous heels from Valentino.

Valentino rockstud neon yellow

Sadly I don’t own them and I expect I’ll never will 😦 so the next best thing is of course to paint them on my nails.

Here is how I did them:

  1. Base is one coat of OPI ‘Glints of Glinda’ and one coat of quick dry top coat. I use HK Girl. Wait until this is completely dry before the next step.
  2. Next I cut up a french mani tape to create a slight curve and a t-strap in the middle. Nail tape is from nailvinyls.com
  3. Fill in with a nude color, I used Essie ‘Urban Jungle’
  4. I then place the studs in my sticky nail polish. If you want them to stay on for a couple of days I recommend nail glue. I use a wax picker to place my studs.
  5. For the tip I painted neon yellow ‘Bikini’ from Models Own.
  6. Clean up an top coat!

I really like how they turned out. Maybe one day I’ll have heels to match…

Sparkly holo pastel gradient

Holo vacation nails

Aaaand I’m on vacation. What better way to celebrate that than lots of pastels and lots of holo. I made some sort of circular gradient with LimeCrime polishes: ‘Once in a blue mousse’, ‘Lavendairy’, ‘Parfait Day’, ‘Crema di Limon’ and ‘Pastelchio’. Then I topped two nails off with my holo top coat from Glam Glaze. On the other nails I used chevron tape from Nailvinyls to make the pattern and painted ILNP ‘Mega’ on top. I also added some studs from BornPrettyStore (use my code AMJ61 for 10% off) and of course ended it all with my trusted HK Girl from Glisten & Glow, the best top coat ever.

I’m so happy watching my nails, they make me want to sing ‘Happy, happy, happy…’. Sparkly and pretty and fun. Loving it.

And since I couldn’t really choose ONE picture you get a whole bunch.

And my daughter’s vacation request was a inflatable bathing ring and she is very specific on how it’s supposed to look and which colors to use. This is the result 🙂

Easy leopard hearts tutorial

For a wedding this weekend I was honored to be asked to do both the bride and maid of honor’s nails. I might get a picture of them later so I can show you. They were happy at least and that’s what’s most important of course.

I wanted something simple for myself so I grabbed some colors that matched my dress and I’m not too worried about conventions and keeping it safe; so I ended up with OPI ‘My vampire is buff’ and China Glaze ‘Flip Flop Fantasy’. That one is REALLY hard to get a good picture of since the camera really don’t want to pick up all that neon, but I actually think I came close this time. So this is my easy leopard heart neon mani:

Leopard hearts

And here is how I made them:

  1. Start with base color, I used OPI My Vampire is buff
  2. Take a dotting tool or bobby pin and make heart shapes. I used China Glaze Flip Flop Fantasy.
  3. Outline the hearts with random black lines, not all the way around. I used a brush instead of a dotting tool for this because I like to have a bit more control over my lines. But you can make them with your dotting tool or bobby pin too. I used OPI Black Onyx.
  4. Fill in empty spaces with little black shapes.
  5. Top coat and clean up!

Good luck and have fun!

Orange roses on gradient, tutorial

Florals, again. It’s been a couple of days so here we go again. This time I went with a soft gradient with some vintage colored roses on top.

  1. I paint a base with OPI ‘Put a coat on’, a white base coat so the light colors of the gradient will pop.
  2. Protect the cuticles with OPI ‘Glitter off’, a peel off base coat that makes clean up much easier. Elmers glue works too. There are tutorials on how to mix that with water to each the same effect. I also like to moisturize my cuticles before, it makes it go off even easier.
  3. Wet a make-up sponge and squeeze out all excess water and paint lines of your colors onto the sponge. I used Essie ‘Find me an oasis’, ‘Meet the parents’ and ‘Lilacism’.
  4. Dab the sponge onto your nails, repeat until you reach desired opacity. Let each layer dry a little bit to prevent the sponge from bringing the base back off.
  5. Top coat immediately to blend the colors together. I use HK Girl from Glisten & Glow.
  6. Remove the peel off base coat.
  7. Paint the stems and leaves, I used OPI ‘Taupe-less on the beach’ and details with OPI ‘My boyfriend scales walls’.
  8. Paint the roses, the base is H&M ‘Want a lemon’ then the details are LimeCrime ‘Peaches & cream’, Essie ‘Resort fling’ and OPI ‘Juice-bar hopping’.
  9. Top coat.
  10. Clean up.

I hope you enjoyed! Play around with the combinations and good luck!

Holo gradient chevron

Gradient holo chevron with studs

Yeah, that’s a mouthful for you. Yesterday I did one ugly manicure after another and ugly nails make me sad. So I’m happy this one came out good. It was hopeless to photograph though so I hope you can see some of the awesomeness. I started with a gradient of OPI ‘My boyfriend scales walls’, ‘Skulls & gloss bones’ and ‘French quarter for your thoughts’. After that I added some holo top coat from Glam Glaze. It was so pretty and sparkly and somber at the same time by itself, but I wanted to add something.

So I made some thin chevrons with China Glaze ‘Highlight of my summer’ and added studs from Born Pretty Store (use code AMJ61 for 10% off). I used my trusted nail vinyls from here and my favorite fast drying top coat HK Girl from Glisten & Glow.

I hope you like it as much as I do!

Windsurfer mani

Windsurfer girl

I started with the colors today and made a gradient out of China Glaze ‘For Audrey’, Love Angeline ‘Sons of Adam’ and Essie ‘Bikini so teeny’. I thought it looked like some tropical waters so I wanted to add a sail, from there it turned into a surfer girl. Sometimes it just works out even if you don’t have a plan, and it’s double the fun I think. For the design I used too many polishes to list, but then I topped it off with my favorite top coat Glisten & Glow ‘HK Girl top coat’.

Then I had some fun with the props while taking pictures. What do you think? Are they fun or just distracting from the mani?

Navy blue chevron for autism awareness

April is autism awareness month and I do believe in educating ourselves with the goal to be more understanding and tolerant towards everyone, no matter what they look like on the outside or the inside. I found a piece of text from Autism Society that I wanted to share today:

“In our mainstream culture, autism is often thought of as a childhood condition. This is because until very recently, public attention has been focused primarily on children and the importance of early detection and intervention. However, autism is a lifelong condition, and the available, necessary supports and treatments change as people on the spectrum move through major life phases.”…”Like nondisabled individuals , people with autism move through significant life changes. Their quality of life depends not only upon the foundation that is provided in childhood, but also on ongoing supports that are specific to the educational, medical, social, recreational, family and employment needs of the individual.”

Blue is the color used for this awareness and I talked to my friend Lindsay about blue designs and I thought of this one, and I wanted it in deep navy, I can’t wait to see what she comes up with later. So I used OPI ‘Russian Navy’ paired with ILNP ‘Mega’, chevrons with nailvilnyls that I painted over with Essie ‘Matte about you’ to get that velvety soft navy as contrast. On my pinkie I put some bling from Born Pretty Store (use code AMJ61for 10% off) and the swarovski is from The Nail Room.

I love the outcome of this and how my pictures are coming together now. And on a side note; I’m a little bit in love with this midi ring I found yesterday at Glitter.

Neons & pastels

I needed something simple and colorful so I did a neon, pastel mix and match with a bow from Simply Spoiled . I have got a code that you can use for 35% off your order: mllr.

For this I used China Glaze ‘Bottoms up’ a wonderful neon pink, Appeal4 ‘Bottle-brush-blue’ and white from Gina Tricot. I really enjoy going from intricate detailed nail art to something simple and cute and most often the simple looks are more wearable and the detailed nail art is more fulfilling to do when you succeed. That is how I feel at least, I don’t know if you recognize yourself in that?

Somehow I also seem to have a harder time making the simpler designs as I get better at the detailed nail art. I really struggled with the cheetah pattern which in reality is pretty easy but I just couldn’t get it right. Ah well, I tried.

Autism awareness day

Today is World Autism Awareness Day and I would like to do my part. You can read all about it here.

As all illnesses and inflictions that aren’t visible I would just like to encourage everyone to be open minded and not try to judge to quickly. I try to live my life not judging people when I haven’t walked in their shoes. I’m not always successful, but I try my best.

Excerpt from http://www.autismspeaks.org :

“The following “red flags” may indicate your child is at risk for an autism spectrum disorder. If your child exhibits any of the following, please don’t delay in asking your pediatrician or family doctor for an evaluation:

  • No big smiles or other warm, joyful expressions by six months or thereafter
  • No back-and-forth sharing of sounds, smiles or other facial expressions by nine months
  • No babbling by 12 months
  • No back-and-forth gestures such as pointing, showing, reaching or waving by 12 months
  • No words by 16 months
  • No meaningful, two-word phrases (not including imitating or repeating) by 24 months
  • Any loss of speech, babbling or social skills at any age”

Early intervention and treatment can be so helpful for the individual growing up.

The color for Autism is blue so I did a blue mani with a lot of my favorites. First a gradient of Essie polishes from their wedding collection 2014, ‘Meet the parents’, ‘Got engaged!’ and ‘Love every minute’. On top of that I used nailvinyls for a chevron with the gorgeous ILNP ‘Birefringence H’ and added a cute teddy bear from Hex Nail Jewelry.

I hope you like it and that you send an extra thought to those with autism.
