Now I have swatched the whole OPI neon 2014 collection and I will share my thoughts on this collection with you. The collection is six new bright colors and introducing a new base coat called ‘Put a Coat On’, a white colored base made to make the neons pop.
OPI Neons 2014
First up I want to talk about the base coat; the sentiment is perfect. All neons need a white undie to make them pop, so having it in the base coat and skipping that first level of white polish would be great. But… here’s the thing, after trying it under the whole collection as intended I’m a bit underwhelmed. Since it’s tinted it behaves like a colored polish more than a base coat, it’s streaky and takes longer to dry than my usual base coat. And I’m a bit lazy and don’t want to put more layers than one of my base coat, so it really shows under the polishes if application wasn’t perfect. So the functionality is not was I hoped for, since I might as well put on a white base coat that is easier to apply evenly. I’m no expert applier though so if you’re talented with your brush it would probably work better. If you’re in a bit of a rush to put on your polish it drags the base coat with it too if it wasn’t entirely dry.
Now on to the polishes. I’ll start with ‘Push & Pur-pull’, a squishy sheer purple. I wouldn’t exactly call it neon but gorgeous color nevertheless and it’s really mouth watering. I had some trouble with the application of this one, since it’s so sheer that my clumsy base coat application really shone through. But it was the first I tried so maybe I got used to them after a while and figured out how to apply them better.

Next is one of the most neon in the bunch, ‘Down to the Core-al’. Its an orange-pink-coral shimmer neon. Make any sense? Well, it’s stunning and super bright. The shimmer adds an extra dimension and also makes it easier to apply. I don’t have anything like it so I’m happy to add this to my collection.

Next up is ‘You are so Outta Lime’, a wonderful green that doesn’t say neon at all to me. But I really love it. Application was good, two coats. This is also a needed contribution to my collection 😉 aren’t they all though?

Next up is the other most neon-y in the collection; ‘Hotter than you Pink’. Like it’s coral counterpart this one too is shimmery with a purple undertone. Easy application and stunning. Very bright, love it.

We’re moving on to ‘Juice Bar Hopping’, a vibrant orange. Kind of neon but not quite. Nevertheless it’s also a gorgeous color and easy to apply. Makes me thirsty for a drink.

And last I managed to save my least favorite of the bunch, ‘Life Gave Me Lemons’. It’s a greenish tinted yellow, which is a kind of ugly color that can still look cute if you know what I mean. The application was a bit chalky but still ok. I have better neon yellows in my collection.

Overall I really like this collection even if it’s not as neon as I would wish. There are some real stunners in there, but also some disappointments. I would definitely not spend my money on the base coat. The rest I’m happy to give a home in my Helmer drawer, even if I will push ‘Life Gave Me Lemons’ slightly to the back.
I hope you liked this and that it was helpful in any way.
